Gloomy Day

The sky was gloomy today, maybe our effect from the hurricane, or is it hurricanes, which reflected the mood I was in. It’s Jacob Blake. Then it’s that kid murdering people in the street who walked right by the cops with his long-gun in tow, and they just waved at him. Isn’t that astonishing? The kid just murdered two people, then he walks right by the cops, and they’re like, how yinz doin’?

And the Republican National Nightmare marched on for night three. It’s got to be some kind of day when former Notre Dame Coach Lou Holt questions your spirituality, but that’s the kind of day Joe Biden had today.

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany hasn’t been in the White House Press Room in 13 days. But she showed up to advocate for Trump’ reelection today, one of many highly inappropriate appearances that I hope will be ripe for investigation by Congress.

Philadelphia Eagles Sportsball Player Jack Brewer ended up speaking, though this was in some question as he is under investigation for insider trading. Nothing weird about that.

And there were more lies and more propaganda, and I yelled at my TV a lot.

Most of the day though, I’ve been thinking about the horror show that happened in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the cop who grabbed the black man’s shirt and shot him seven times in the back; the white teenager striding down the street with an AK-47, murdering people and then skipping past the police officers, likely because for some reason a caucasian person with an assault weapon doesn’t ring any bells for 5-0.

What is wrong with us?

Day Two, Republican National Nightmare

Greetings from six months of “sheltering in place” in the beautiful hinterlands of New York state. Here from our busy laboratories at the Serious Poopoo Institute of Technology, we have been observing what has been perhaps one of the most bizarre things to have ever happened in the history of these Untied States of America, that being the Republican Nation Nightmare, sorry, I mispronounced “convention,” on the TV, and all the news that goes along with it.

For example, did you have “Jerry Falwell Jr., the son of Jerry Falwell Sr., who founded Liberty University and co-founded the ‘Moral Majority (which was always neither) is drummed out of being preznit of Liberty University after A) a picture is leaked of he and a young woman with a solo cup full of booze and his and her fly down and B) after it was revealed to the world that he is a cuckold” on your HOLY SHIT bingo card? Also, one of the speakers at Day Two of the Republican National Nightmare was Cissie Graham Lynch, granddaughter of the genuine original come-to-Jesus-fella on the national stage, the Rev. Billy Graham!

I’m sorry, I can’t tell you what that note is because I’m completely tone-deaf.

Actually, I have natural perfect pitch, the previous sentence was a bit of sarcasm.

So then you have “Secretary of State” Mike Pompeo speaking from Jerusalem, from the top of the King David Hotel no less, a move that A) breaks Pompeo’s own guidance for State Department employees regarding participating in political events, and B) may forever taint the Middle East peace process, but hey, just so long as Mike Pompeo gets enough orange dirt on his nose, we’re good, yeah? What a dick.

So then you have Impeached Preznit Carnage Weezy Booger Insanity Bergman conducting a citizenship ceremony right there at the White House! That was really great! Until you know that thousands of other people right now are not being allowed to take the oath because the preznit doesn’t want to do it via Zoom! What virus? There’s no virus here! Smell my finger.

You also have a “convention” that conducted its roll call and nomination in the middle of the day Monday and that is literally not voting on a party platform, which I figure are moves just made to “own the libs” because frankly THAT SHIT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. They did the roll call already. They are not approving an updated platform. WHY ARE THEY EVEN HAVING A CONVENTION? I ask myself in the shower while gripping a washcloth with all my strength.

But look, Brady Bonk, President, CEO and Pastor of the Serious Poopoo Institute of Technology, could go on all day talking about the humongous pile of shit that was the Republican National Nightmare, Day 2. What I really want to discuss is Mary Ann Mendoza. She is what they call an “angel mom,” a loose term for a mother who’s lost a child, co-opted by Trump later to poof up his jingoistic brand. She was scheduled to speak Tuesday about her son’s 2014 death at the hands of a drunk driver who was in the country illegally.

But she didn’t speak at day two of the Republican Nation Nightmare on the TV. She got in a bit of trouble over a retweet.

It is reported that she shared a link to a…well, let’s let the nice people over at Daily Beast explain it:

Hours earlier, Mendoza had linked to a lengthy thread from a QAnon conspiracy theorist that laid out a fevered, anti-Semitic view of the world. In its telling, the Rothschilds—a famous Jewish banking family from Germany—created a plot to terrorize non-Jewish “goyim,” with purported details of their scheme that included plans to “make the goyim destroy each other” and “rob the goyim of their landed properties.”

The thread of course lovingly referred to its source material, a little book known as The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

To her credit I reckon, Mendoza deleted the tweet and issued an apology once it was caught. However, her initial enthusiasm for the thread and that a person like this was slated to speak at the Impeached Incumbent’s National Nightmare is kind of horrifying.

Please understand this, as I was informed by the late great Professor Saul Friedman of Youngstown, Ohio when I took his Holocaust class in the college school: Adolf Hitler did not create the ideas that led him to massacre 12 million people. He drew them from various sources. Histories of pogroms that went back a century in Russia and elsewhere. (Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492 and also that year Spain was expelling its Jews.) He was also drawing from a vicious piece of propaganda called The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which pretended to be a literal handbook of sorts of what Jews do. You know. They eat babies, they desecrate the host (any transubstantiation fans out there?), they have tails, they control the media and the world and also they all have money and big ugly nose. That kind of stuff is what is in this horrible book. Which, by the way, is still taught in some madrassas.

I think that the Trump “movement” or “revolution” as it was referred to at some point tonight is actually largely driven by these horrifying ideas, whether they or their voters understand that or not. At the least, it provides a blueprint for this strategy. Consider how Trump and every trumpster works so hard to vilify the media. Consider how extreme is their invective. They can’t just disagree with us. They have to paint us as monsters, as seething, boiling, penis-looking monsters with shitty teeth and brains on the outside of our heads, and all we want to do is to take your guns, raise your taxes, and shit on your dog. Same playbook. 2020.

I know it’s often said that the first one to bring up Hitler in an argument loses. But people. Via Mary Ann Mendoza we have a straight, unobstructed line from the Impeached Preznit Carnage of Unending COVID Deaths to one of the most vicious, ruthless, libelous, blood-covered documents ever created.

I don’t know what else you need.

WaPo Thinks She’s Running

Sean McElwee and Jon Green of The Washington Post sure think New York’s own Kirsten Gillibrand is running for preznit.

For those of you who hit the Post’s paywall: They think so because she has established a boldfaced anti-Trump voting record. They argue that this voting record makes Gillibrand an undisputed claimant to the progressive mantle.

For now, so long as we can re-elect her to the Senate in New York, I’m happy.

Now, while I think Democrats need to expend more effort in 2018 developing its own message rather than pointing out the painful shortcomings of Preznit DJ Trump, I still rush to share a recent article from Politico.

It is horrifying.
