'He Saved Our Butts!'

This photograph seems appropriate to share right about now. This is my Grandma, who came to D.C. for my birthday last month and to tour the FDR memorial. When she saw the first edifice of the memorial, a statue of the President in his wheelchair, her response was immediate, spontaneous, and true: “I just want to give him a hug!” Shortly thereafter, she proclaimed to a relative youngster also touring the FDR, “He saved our butts!”

I have very much enjoyed touristing some of our monuments with my Grandma, especially right now. Her perspective and experience has never seemed as relevant as it does today.

I recommend the memorial to anyone; it is awesome. Go and stand in the soup line. You know. Get some practice.
