George Will: Generally Right About The Wars, But Still Can't Help But Tell A Fib

2009 December 3
by Brady Bonk

George F.U. Will has a generally good column in today’s The Washington Post. It is a somewhat bleak look at Obama’s newly-announced Afghanistan policy. But there’s one line in there where Will’s partisan bullshit shows right on through.

Will writes:

Many Democrats, who think the $787 billion stimulus was too small and want another one (but by another name), are flinching from the $30 billion one-year cost of the Afghan surge. Considering that the GM and GMAC bailouts ($63 billion) are five times bigger than Afghanistan’s gross domestic product ($12 billion), Democrats seem to be selective worriers about deficits.

To which I reply:

George, Republigoats are also selective worriers about deficits. That’s the core of politics. In fact, I think it may be the purist definition of “politics”: Selective worrying about deficits (and budgets).

Did the Republigoats worry about deficits when they were piling on top of it with “emergency” funding measures for Iraq? Or regarding the Bush tax cut? Eh? Skippy?

George, I think it’s time for you to stop writing horrible op-ed pieces about public policy and perhaps think about a new career writing more horrible books about baseball.
