Let me say it for you like Kay Love. “Freedom is the distance between church and state, church and state, church and state. Freedom is the distance between church and state, now let’s all sing along”.

I am a recoving Momon. I left the church back in 1991 but only after being married in the temple and serving a stake missionary position. Mormons teach their children from a very young age all of their ideas by putting it in a song and haveing them sing it over and over. For Mitt, being the faithful Mormon that he is, it will be impossible for him to sit in the White House and not have these old church tunes playing in his head. Who knows what he will have Congress singing, let a lone the country so that we all follow along like the good little sheep we should be.

Dan Cathy can run his business any way he wants, that’s his right. He can also be a bigot and allow his religious beliefs to give him justification for being one, that’s his perogative. His food is tasty and I will continue to patronize his restaurants, because he likely has hundreds (if not thousands) of gay folks working for him, taking his money in exchange for their labor. I will continue to support Chick-Fil-A with my busines to make sure those beautiful people have a job and continue to take Cathy’s gay-hating money and live their own private lives. In another generation or so, a person’s sexual orientation will be of no more consequence than the color of their eyes. I can’t WAIT for that day. Now… me needs a chickie brekkie sammie! With HONEY!!!! NOM!!!! BTW, the best way to scarf down those bigoted chickie nuggets and waffle fries is at home after placing them under a pre-heated broiler for about 5 minutes… crispy and crunchy, with the bigotry all baked outta there.

You should also add Romney’s quote responding to Obama saying, in 2008, that he would go into Pakistan. Romney argued it would be wrong to infringe Pakistan’s sovereignty even if there was a high value target, like binLaden.

I, too, have read Susan Jacoby’s Freethinkers, and recommend it highly.

I have also read a biography of Paine, and the statement here about the U.S. letting Paine rot in a French prison is not quite accurate.

First, it was the French Reign of Terrorists that put him in the prison, and the way they treated Paine (as well as Lafayette) was an abomination.

Gouverneur Morris, the Ambassador to France at the time of Paine’s arrest, didn’t do anything to help him, but Morris’ successor, James Monroe, was responsible for springing him.
